Studies and Analysis

FTI designs and conducts formal studies and analyses of client decision problems using the most advanced and validated quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Where appropriate methodologies or analytical models do not exist, FTI develops them for their clients.

FTI has provided on-site analytical services to the Air Staff’s resource analysis group since 1997.  FTI’s full-spectrum team includes ORSA specialists, computer programmers, operations research analysts, mathematicians, statisticians, scientists, and engineers.  Responding to shifting client needs, staffing focuses on former professors at research universities whose Ph.D.’s come from premier programs, such as Carnegie Mellon (Operations Research/Integer Programming) and Stanford (Mathematical and Statistical Financial Economics).

FTI’s distinctive competencies have resulted in computerized tools development, and comprehensive analyses through utilization of FTI’s advanced technical skills. Among our many recognized accomplishments were financial analyses that solidified USAF’s opposition to B-52 re-engining, as well as statistical analysis rejecting many purported foundations of “Aircraft Aging,” such as increased operations and maintenance costs, loss of mission capability, or diminished aircraft safety.

Additionally, FTI has accomplished mathematical modeling and programming for USAF capabilities allocation including analysis, modeling, and simulation for air crew re-training and reconstitution following the first Iraq War. FTI was selected to provide computerized tool development for feasibility analyses related to Air Expeditionary Force allocations, as well as financial modeling of various air fleet recapitalizations and mathematical and statistical forecasting of future service lives for various air fleets. Finally, FTI was instrumental in the design and development of Integer Programming decision support tools for USAF’s 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. Work stimulated through efforts of the FTI team has been published in Military Operations Research publications, and has been recognized for its excellence by Air Force senior leadership, resulting in various USAF awards.
